Thumbtack
Connecting Thumbtack turns your Thumbtack Pro account into a source in Auto-Respond. Every inquiry that comes in through Thumbtack is picked up automatically, answered according to your Messaging Settings, and shown on your Leads page with the full conversation.
Thumbtack is a two-way messaging source — both inbound messages and outbound replies go through Auto-Respond.
What gets captured from Thumbtack
Every Thumbtack inquiry brings over whatever the customer shared on Thumbtack, including:
- Customer name
- Project details (service category, job description)
- Postal code or service location
- Availability the customer selected
- Phone number and email when the customer shares them in the conversation
- File attachments (documents or images) when the customer uploads them
Connecting a Thumbtack source
Open Sources
In Auto-Respond, go to Sources and click Add Thumbtack.
Sign in and authorize
You’ll be redirected to Thumbtack. Sign in with your Thumbtack Pro credentials and grant Auto-Respond permission to read inquiries and send replies on behalf of your Pro account. Your password is never shared with Auto-Respond — only a secure access token is returned after you approve.
Review activation
After authorizing, you’re redirected back to Auto-Respond. Your Thumbtack Pro account appears as a new source on the Sources page with a green Active status and a link to Messaging Settings.
What’s different about this source
- One source per Pro account. Unlike Yelp, Thumbtack isn’t organized by location — one Thumbtack Pro account is one source.
- Service categories come through. The service category the customer picked on Thumbtack is included in the inquiry, which helps the AI assistant tailor its reply.
- Attachments are preserved. If the customer uploaded documents or images on Thumbtack, those are visible on the lead in Auto-Respond.

A Thumbtack source supports the full set of Messaging Settings:
- Conversation Setup — AI assistant or predefined messages
- Follow-ups — nurturing sequences
- Timing — business hours and delays
- Integrations — CRM and team notifications
- Contact Info — what happens when the customer shares a phone number or email

Troubleshooting
- Authorization failed — Make sure you’re signed into the correct Thumbtack Pro account, then try again. If you recently changed your Thumbtack password, re-authenticate.
- Messages aren’t arriving — Confirm the source is Active, open Thumbtack to confirm new inquiries are landing in your Thumbtack inbox, and re-authenticate if needed.
- Replies aren’t being sent — Check that your Messaging Settings have a Conversation Setup configured and that business hours / timing aren’t holding messages.
- Billing warning on the card — Open Billing and resolve the payment issue. The source won’t receive new messages until billing is current.
